Preserving the Legacy of Excellence Since 1999
Our History

The Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) 93-99 Europe
chapter was established to carry forward the esteemed heritage and community spirit of Government College, Ibadan, into Europe. As the first group of its kind in Europe, GCIOBA 93-99 Europe acts as a vibrant and dynamic network for alumni from the class 93 of GCI graduates, connecting old boys who now reside in various countries across Europe.
The foundation of the Europe chapter occurred in March 2017, under the leadership of Yinka Ojulari as the European Representative and Ayo Akintoye as his assistant, positions
they were appointed to by the Nigerian chapter in December 2016. The inaugural gathering, also the first UK reunion, took place in July 2017 at JRC Global Buffet in London, drawing approximately 25 brothers.
In celebration of the 30th reunion, the chapter underwent a relaunch in October 2023, aiming to preserve the values and legacy of GCI. The focus has been on promoting unity among its members and contributing to their advancement and development.
In February 2024, the association appointed its first official executive members, tasked with leading an agenda that fosters professional collaboration, supports educational initiatives, and celebrates the achievements of its members. Through a series of regular events, reunions, and charitable activities, GCIOBA Europe continually strengthens cross-border bonds of fellowship, ensuring the traditions of Government College, Ibadan, are upheld and flourish throughout Europe. Both the school and its global alumni networks, including GCIOBA Europe, play a crucial role in sustaining GCI’s legacy as an institution committed to fostering excellence and leadership.
Upholding tradition, fostering unity.
About GCIOBA Europe
GCIOBA 93-99 Europe, the European chapter of the Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association, is steadfast in its commitment to preserving the rich legacy and tradition of excellence embodied by Government College Ibadan. We function as a vibrant network of alumni dedicated to forging lifelong connections, supporting educational initiatives, and giving back to our alma mater. Our collective efforts are aimed at inspiring leadership and strengthening our community, making a positive societal impact while maintaining the values instilled in us at Government College Ibadan. Through various activities and programs, we continue to promote unity among our members and celebrate the achievements that reflect the enduring spirit of GCI.
Our Mission
To unite and support Government College Ibadan (GCI) alumni across Europe, GCIOBA 93-99 Europe chapter is dedicated to fostering connections and empowering our members. We aim to actively contribute to our alma mater through mentorship programs and various initiatives that enhance educational opportunities and promote
the enduring legacy of excellence.
Our Vision
To become a robust, vibrant, and globally recognized alumni network that upholds and preserves the legacy of Government College Ibadan. We strive to inspire excellence, leadership, and a positive impact in society, perpetuating the storied traditions and values of our esteemed alma mater.

Our Membership Drive
We are actively encouraging all our members to participate in our membership drive initiative, aimed at reaching out to all class ’93 sets across Europe. Our goal is to engage all old boys in these regions to foster networking, mentorship, and camaraderie. To facilitate this effort, we have established a dedicated membership drive committee. We urge everyone to get involved and contribute to this vital outreach. As we progress with this drive, we also plan to expand our reach by opening sub chapters. This is a great opportunity to strengthen our network and enhance the support we offer to each other and to our alma mater.
GCIOBA Europe Constitution
Through the diligent efforts of our executive members, our current Constitution was crafted and adopted in 2024. As we continue to progress and grow, the Constitution is subject to amendments to ensure it remains relevant and responsive to our dynamic situation. We believe that maintaining this flexibility in our governance documents will foster greater participation among our members, encouraging a more active and engaged community that is well-equipped to uphold the values and legacy of Government College Ibadan.

GCIOBA93-99 Foundation
Under the auspices of the GCIOBA93-99 branch, we plan to establish a foundation dedicated to coordinating both existing and new projects that benefit our alma mater. This foundation will also play a crucial role in organising our GCIOBA93-99 activities, identifying various initiatives that the branch can undertake to add value for all members. These initiatives will include, but are not limited to, networking, mentoring, and fundraising efforts. By formalising these efforts through the foundation, we aim to enhance our collective impact and continue our tradition of excellence and support for Government College Ibadan.
GCIOBA Welfare Initiative
As we conclude our membership drive, we are committed to continuing and expanding our Welfare Initiative. We will be seeking volunteers from among our alumni to participate in our Pilot Welfare Check program. This initiative involves our members checking in monthly with other old boys, particularly those who are experiencing illness or have recently suffered a bereavement.
Additionally, we encourage contributions from our alumni to support this vital welfare program. These funds will be directed towards assisting members who would benefit most from this support, reinforcing our commitment to the well-being and solidarity of our community. This initiative not only strengthens our bonds but also underscores our dedication to the support and care of every member in times of need.

Donation Collection
The collection of the £120 annual donation currently falls under the purview of the active Executive Committee (Exco). However, as we expand and establish new chapters, the responsibility for collecting donations will be decentralized. Each chapter will be encouraged to collect this annual donation from its members, fostering a sense of responsibility and involvement at the local level.
We will urge all active chapters to proactively reach out to their members regarding the donation. For members who are not affiliated with any specific chapter, the Exco will directly contact them to facilitate the donation process.
These donations are crucial as they grant each old boy the right to actively participate in all association activities and maintain good standing within the organization, including the right to vote. This financial contribution supports the sustainability of our initiatives and the overall health of the association, ensuring that we continue to uphold the legacy of excellence and camaraderie that defines us.
